Spiculums - Day 1 with Travis Ogden
What exactly is a spiculum? Well, it is a tapered hollow tube made from flat sheet metal. The tube can be left as a straight tapered tube or made into a curved tapered tube. The spiculum can also be curved during development by anticlasting the axial and radial curves at the same time.
Travis Ogden is renowned for his ability to shape flat sheets of metal into hollow forms and sculptures. He will help students to explore the best practices for this method of metal forming.
Travis will be teaching students the strategies, procedures and methods needed to create this amazing tapered hollow tube. With his expert guidance students will gain a deeper understanding of shaping metal using a spiculum stake and a cross peen hammer to create specific results. Students will learn the proper way to anneal the spiculum and solder it closed.
Spiculum Necklace - Day 2 with Darlene Armstrong
Over the course of the second day, students will get the inside scoop on how to turn their spiculum into a dynamic neck piece. Students will learn how to apply new design skills to plan for adding a stone on one end, and a pearl on the other. Darlene will also teach how to correctly create a hole for a cable or chain to go through to be worn as adornment.
All the techniques taught in this extended workshop may be used to fabricate jewelry that is truly elegant and unique.
