Introduction to Basic Prong Setting

Instructor:  Randy Burns

Prerequisite:  Metalsmithing 1 or equivalent

Limit:  6

Duration:  8 Hours 


Students need to bring the following: 

Optivisor, if needed, to see up close

Jeweler’s saw frame 2 ½ or 3-inch depth preferred (or bring the one you have)

4/0 saw blades (more than 1 blade)

Bees Wax for holding stone (size of a marble)

Dividers – 2 steel legs (small pair)

Pliers (flat smooth jaw) 3 mm approximate width of jaws (chain nose)

Prong Pusher (square steel in a wood handle)

Sili-Pum rubber wheel with small mandrel

Square needle file (4/0 cut)

Particulate respirator (P95 or N 95 or better – bring the one you got in Metals 1)

Safety glasses

 

The current kit fee is $52 (already included in your tuition). The kit includes: 

4-prong heads (2)

round CZ (2)

hart bur (1)

Remaining miscellaneous items necessary for the workshop
