Stacked Granulation Lost Wax Casting

Instructor:  Judy Brown

Prerequisite:  Metalsmithing I

Limit:  6

Duration:  16 Hours 


Included in Kit Fee (provided by the studio):
18 gauge green sheet wax
wax wire assortment
card stock paper for layout of pieces, 3-4 sheets

The following items are for you to purchase and bring to class:

For creating piece to cast:
Exacto Knife
3-4 ounces of sterling silver casting grain (or sterling scraps without any solder)
6 inch metal jeweler’s ruler
plastic or metal ring sizer set (used to find your ring size)
 
For clean up/finishing after casting:
1 pair disposable gloves (must fit fingertips well, for polishing) Nitrile, vinyl, or latex will all work
1 brick or tube bobbing compound
1 brass wire brush
Jeweler’s saw frame and saw blades (for cutting sprue) or sprue cutting pliers
safety glasses (regular or over the frame version if you wear glasses or reading glasses)
beeswax or synthetic compound (to lubricate your saw blades)
1 or more knife edge blue (coarse) abrasive wheels and 1 mandrel
polishing widgets:  (blue, peach, green bristle discs, steel head brush, flat edge abrasive wheels (blue and pink), medium natural bristle (dark brown hair) brush for Bobbing compound)
N95 or P95 face mask (or better)
