Lexi Erickson has been teaching jewelry for 23 years. She received a Masters Degree in Jewelry Fabrication and Design, studying at both Sam Houston State University in Texas and University of New Mexico. Since then, Lexi attends various community colleges and universities just to have the chance to study with some awesome teachers. Past teachers have included Harold O'Connor, Charles Lewton Brain, Marne Ryan, MaryAnn Scherr, Thomas Mann, Bruce Metcalf, Bob Ebendorf, and one of the best teachers has been our own Richard Sweetman.
Jewelry wasn't her first love, as she spent 20 years as an archaeologist, working in Europe and the Southwestern US. While finishing a PhD in Anthropology/Archaeology, she wanted to learn about the European Bronze Age and took a jewelry making class...and promptly fell in love with fabrication techniques. Her jewelry invokes feelings of past cultures and esoteric symbolism of cultures long since vanished.
Lexi has taught at Colorado Mountain College for 10 years, and has been adjunct for Adams State College, Regis University, Wells College (NY), Kingwood College (Texas) and taught metals at Baum School of Art in Allentown PA for 3 years. While living in Santiago, Chile, she opened her own jewelry school and taught three years before turning it over to her top teachers to continue, and she returned to the US.
Her work has been frequently published in Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist. She has been the cover artist for 3 issues and her step by steps articles are regularly featured. So far in 2010 her projects for LJJA have included a Petrified Wood Pendant in the February issue, Reticulated Earring in the April issue, and Setting a Stone Within a Stone in the May issue. Her work has been presented in the new book, "The Best of Lapidary Journal", and also in New Art Review's upcoming book, "Just Jewelry". She has taught and lectured in Europe and South America, and has won numerous awards for her jewelry. She teaches at Jewelry Artist Beadfest events throughout the country.
Lexi is on the Board of Directors for Colorado Metalsmithing Assoc. and is the immediate past President of Pennsylvania Society of Goldsmiths.
