David Huang
www.davidhuang.org

David Huang is a full-time studio artist making hollowware vessels that involve rich patinas on the exterior surfaces.  His vessels are lined with 24 kt. gold and the surfaces are adorned with elaborate chasing textures.  Anyone who has seen one of his vessels knows how they glow as if lit from within.
David graduated magna cum laude in 2001 from Grand Valley State University.  He received his BFA with an emphasis in metalsmithing and taught jewelry classes part-time for four years at Grand Rapids Community College.  For several years he has been teaching metal raising and chasing workshops for groups around the US including the Colorado Metalsmithing Association, the Appalachian Center for Craft, and the Michigan Silversmiths Guild.
You can see and learn about David’s work at his website www.davidhuang.org.  Some of his most recent publication credits include:

“Inquire Within: The Holloware of David Huang” feature article by Anne L. Larsen, Metalsmith Magazine 2008 volume 28 number 3

“500 Metal Vessels: Contemporary Explorations of Containment” juried by Fred Fenster, Lark Books a division of Sterling Publishing Co., Inc.

“Precious Metal Alloys Part 2 Extreme Colors – An Overview” inclusion within the article by Christine Patrich, GZ Art + Design issue August 3/2007

“David Huang: Vessels of Imagination” a show review by Phil Carrizzi, Metalsmith Magazine 2007 volume 27 number 3
