In this 4 day workshop, Master Enameller Harlan Butt will give students the fundamentals of Cloisonné Enameling which is essentially drawing with wire and coloring with glass. This process can be simple and easy or complex and more challenging depending on the design. Harlan has perfected this style of enameling and is well known for his amazing enameled vessels. Please see Harlan's work on his website: harlanwbutt.com. More work can be seen if you google him to see previous collections. Discussions/demos include metal preparation, kilns, kiln furniture, various finishing techniques, working on curved surfaces and color shading.
Students will be working their cloisonné pieces on domed copper or fine silver as student chooses. Everyone will make a cloisonné disc to take home, which could later be set in a bezel as jewelry.
Time permitting; students may work on additional pieces.
Students are encouraged to come with ideas, pictures, book designs or drawings of possible projects. *Students may take photos in class as instructor directs.
