Beginning Casting Instructor: Jennifer Kenyon Pre-req: Metalsmithing I
Come learn how to take your metalsmithing to the next level with casting. Knowing how to cast will enable you to make multiple pieces quickly and inexpensively. It will also allow for more detailed, organic design elements in your projects, which normally cannot be achieved in fabricating. This promises to be a fun class as well as very informative.
In this class, students will learn the basics of several types of casting procedures with a major emphasis on the Lost Wax method. Students will learn how to create a mold using wax carving techniques as well as sculpting a design from soft sheet wax. Students will also learn how to invest, cast and finish their project. Other types of casting, such as straw, drop (water), and charcoal will be demonstrated. Students will receive a beginning casting packet of information to take home.
A $5 studio fee (cash/check) is due first day of class
